Diagnosing Cancer: State-of-the-art screening and diagnostic modalities that assist physicians to locate and treat cancer include the latest technologies such as CT/PET and CT-guided bronchoscopy for the evaluation of cancerous tumors in the lung, liver and head and neck. We also offer genetic testing and counseling for patients at high risk of breast and colon cancer.

Treating Cancer: Interdisciplinary patient care teams provide innovative and comprehensive quality cancer care with maximum effectiveness and the fewest possible side effects.

Cutting Edge Technology: Mount Sinai doctors use Laparoscopic and other minimally invasive procedures for many types of cancers, such as, brain, breast, women’s cancers (cervix, ovarian and uterine), colorectal, , esophagus, kidney, liver, lung, pancreas, prostate, skin,and stomach. Mount Sinai employs the Novalis Shaped Beam Surgery System-- the very latest in stereotactic radiosurgery technology, enabling more precise treatments, reduced risk and improved quality of life.

Innovative Treatments: A Bone Marrow Transplantation Program for leukemia, myeloma, and other cancers of the blood offer new, far less toxic interventions that make this treatment an option even for a range of patients including frail, elderly patients.

Oncology Clinical Research: Patients have access to a broad range of clinical trials for lung, liver, head and neck, prostate, brain, metastatic colon, metastatic breast, pancreatic cancer, and others. Some of these leading-edge treatments involve introducing genes that kill the cancerous cells by causing them to 'commit suicide;' others strengthen the body's immune system so it can fight the cancer more effectively.

Support for the Patient: Coordinated counseling, expert nursing care and educational services are provided in a supportive environment to assist patients as they undergo chemotherapy treatment in the Ruttenberg Treatment Center. Family counseling is also available by Social Workers to assist in identifying home care needs.

Support for the Family: Extensive emotional and informational resources for patients and their families, including support groups, advice for caregivers, and more.
