Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Center

Overview

Inpatient rehabilitation is often the first step on the road to independence. The goals of inpatient rehabilitation are to maximize independence and facilitate a smooth transition to the next therapeutic setting, which may be home-based rehabilitation, sub-acute rehabilitation, outpatient therapy, or long-term care.; This is accomplished through hands-on therapy as well as educational classes. Throughout your stay, you and your significant other or family representative are included in all of the decision-making processes that impact your health, your therapy, and your discharge. Patients are provided with an inpatient brochure that offers many details about their inpatient stay - from the class schedule to visiting hours, to ones rights as a patient at The Mount Sinai Medical Center.

Our comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation programs are certified by the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and designated by the National Institute of Disability Research and Rehabilitation (NIDRR) as model systems of care for spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury.

U.S. News & World Report's annual survey of America's best hospitals consistently ranks Mount Sinai Rehabilitation Center among the top programs in the country. Our state-of-the-art inpatient services includes one floor specially designed for patients with spinal cord injury, two for those with brain injury and stroke, and a fourth for a variety of medical/surgical conditions requiring comprehensive rehabilitation services. Each floor has its own therapy space and gym.

We work with each patient to set personal goals for rehabilitation. Optimizing the expertise of our physiatrists (physicians who are board-certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation), therapists, and specialized nurses, our services are designed to help each patient meet those personal goals.
