The New York Group for Plastic Surgery Joins Mount Sinai Doctors

The New York Group for Plastic Surgery (NYGPS) has joined the Department of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The newly named Mount Sinai Doctors New York Group for Plastic Surgery gives residents of New York City and the lower Hudson Valley access to a team of world-renowned plastic surgeons performing innovative reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery techniques.  Additionally, C. Andrew Salzberg, MD, who led NYGPS, was named the Director of Integrated Plastic Surgery Services at the Mount Sinai Health System. He will be joined by partners R. Michael Koch, MD and Jordan M.S. Jacobs, MD.

Dr. Salzberg has more than 25 years of experience serving patients in Westchester County, New York.  He is best known as the pioneer of Direct to Implant and AlloDerm Breast Reconstruction. Additionally, Dr. Salzberg is an expert in utilizing Strattice for Secondary Breast Augmentations, correcting some of the most challenging cases such as bottoming out, symastia, rippling and wrinkling, fold malposition and mastopexy / augmentation.  He graduated from the University of Florida School of Medicine, where he earned a Medical Doctorate in 1981. Dr. Salzberg completed a residency in General Surgery at Mount Sinai Beth Israel (then known as Beth Israel Medical Center, 1981-87) and a Plastic Surgery residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital (1984-87).

Along with Dr. Salzberg, the Board Certified plastic surgeons who are a part of the Mount Sinai Doctors New York Group for Plastic Surgery include R. Michael Koch, MD, an expert in microsurgical breast reconstruction and orthopedic microsurgical reconstructions, and Jordan M.S. Jacobs, MD., who specializes in microsurgical breast reconstruction and craniofacial surgery. Microsurgical breast reconstruction, such as the DIEP flap uses a woman’s own tissue to create a breast that looks and feels natural.

National Experts in Direct to Implant and DIEP Flap Breast Reconstruction:

C. Andrew Salzberg, MD: Dr. Salzberg pioneered the Direct to Implant or “one-step” breast reconstruction technique. In practice since 1987, with his first Direct to Implant procedure in 2001, he has reconstructed more than 1,100 breasts on more than 650 patients as part of breast cancer treatment or prevention for women at high risk of breast cancer due to a BRCA mutation or family history. His expertise with using Alloderm or Strattice tissue matrix as implant support allows him to overcome some of the most challenging problems such as bottoming out, rippling or wrinkling and fold malposition. Dr. Salzberg is also skilled in fat transfer for revision breast reconstruction along with Naturalfill breast augmentation.

R. Michael Koch, MD: Dr. Koch specializes in cosmetic surgery, breast surgery and microsurgical reconstruction. He received his plastic surgical training at the UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles and also completed an additional yearlong fellowship in aesthetic plastic surgery at the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.

Jordan M.S. Jacobs, MD: Dr. Jacobs specializes in craniofacial surgery, cosmetic surgery and microsurgical breast reconstruction. He received his general and plastic surgical training at New York University Langone Medical Center, and also completed a yearlong fellowship in pediatric and adult craniofacial surgery at their Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery.
