Inpatient Pharmacy Department

The Inpatient Pharmacy Department dispenses and monitors the use of narcotics with computerized Pyxis® systems. The Inpatient Pharmacy also dispenses medication to the Emergency, Rehabilitation, and Psychiatry Departments.

The Inpatient Pharmacy's OR/PACU service offers two OR pharmacy statellites. The department also has an extemporaneous compounding service that prepares specialized drug dosage forms.

This area is open 24 hours a day, and offers off-hours pharmacy services to the entire institution.

Sterile/Non-sterile Manufacture-Compounding

This division operates in a state of the art sterile suite of rooms and has a number of different functions, with the primary patient-specific responsibilities including the manufacture of Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) solutions, using an automated compounder, oncology products, and a variety of parenteral preparations. Finally, this division prepares specific medications for patients with genetic disorders.

This division also prepares premixed antibiotics with patient-specific labeling. In addition, pharmacists in this unit compound a variety of standard, non-sterile oral and topical preparations. Finally, through the use of automated equipment, the Sterile/Non-sterile Manufacturing-Compounding Area prepares unit dose packages of medications that are purchased in bulk form.

Employee Pharmacy - Icahn School of Medicine Pharmacy

The Pharmacy fills formulary medication prescriptions for eligible employees, medical school personnel, and students and some patients of the Faculty Practices. The hours of operation for the Icahn School of Medicine Pharmacy are Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Robotic Dispensing

The Robotic Dispensing pharmacy uses a state of the art system that dispenses up to 10,000 doses each day. The time saved with the Robot-Rx Medication System allows our staff to perform more clinical functions on the units alongside doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
