About Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) – Head and Neck Surgery at Mount Sinai

Mount Sinai’s Department of Otolaryngology (Ear, Nose and Throat) – Head and Neck Surgery has earned a reputation as one of the finest in the nation and is internationally recognized for its groundbreaking clinical advances in the field. Since the Department was founded in 1879, our physicians have gained national recognition for their expertise and innovation in reconstructive surgery and the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the ears, nose, and throat and tumors of the head, neck, and skull base. Mount Sinai was among the first hospitals in the United States to spearhead the use of minimally invasive TransOral Robotic Surgery (TORS) for oral and throat malignancies and among the first to establish a Head and Neck Institute link to the head and neck isntitute dedicated to treating patients with head and neck tumors and other diseases and injuries.

In addition to being at the forefront of identifying and treating HPV-related oral and throat cancers and housing the largest robotic surgery program in the nation, the Department forged the use of virtual reality and 3-D navigational software for mapping tumors at our Skull Base Surgery Center. Our otologists/neurotologists are few in the nation treating cholesteatoma and glomus tumors endoscopically (without external incisions) and our sleep surgeons were early adopters Inspire Therapy – an alternate treatment for obstructive sleep apnea for those unable to comply with the CPAP regimen.

At the heart of our work is our abiding dedication to and respect for our patients and their families. We deliver comprehensive and compassionate care using the latest and safest therapies, with the goal of advancing and restoring our patients’ well-being.
