About Me
Aimee L. Lucas MD, MS is the Chief of Gastroenterology & Hepatology at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West Hospitals and a Professor of Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Her clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of digestive disorders and endoscopy, with particular interest in caring for patients with hereditary cancer syndromes and those at high risk for developing gastrointestinal cancers, including pancreatic and colorectal cancer.
Dr. Lucas is the Director of the Pancreatic Cancer Prevention and Surveillance Clinic and the Gastrointestinal Cancer High-Risk Clinic. These programs provide personalized and comprehensive genetic and gastroenterological risk assessment for patients with inherited cancer syndromes, including Lynch syndrome and BRCA1/2, or a family history of gastrointestinal cancers. She is also the Director of the National Pancreas Foundation Center of Excellence and an active member of the Multidisciplinary Center of Excellence for Pancreatic Cancer
Her research interest is in developing screening regimens to detect early pancreatic cancer and precancerous lesions in high-risk patients with family history of pancreatic cancer or genetic cancer syndromes. Her work has been published in numerous gastroenterology and oncology journals, and she has received support from the National Institutes of Health, the American Cancer Society, and other non-profit organizations.
Dr. Lucas received her undergraduate degree from Brown University with Honors. She then received her medical degree from Yale University School of Medicine and completed a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Fellowship. She subsequently trained in Internal Medicine at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University where she served as Chief Medical Resident. She remained at Columbia for fellowship training in Gastroenterology, during which time she served as Chief Gastroenterology Fellow and also obtained a Masters Degree in Patient-Oriented Research from the Mailman School of Public Health at Columbia University. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
