About Me

Joshua Friedman, MD is an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Internal Medicine (Division of Hematology and Oncology). He is board certified in both neurology and neuro-oncology and welcomes patients with primary and metastatic cancers of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and meninges, as well as the neurologic complications of systemic cancer. At Ruttenberg Treatment Center, his team is dedicated to diagnosing and providing compassionate care to patients suffering from a variety of brain and spinal cord tumors including glioma and glioblastoma, CNS lymphoma, meningioma, and metastases from other primary cancers.

Dr. Friedman studied neurobiology at Harvard University and subsequently completed medical school at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai where he was the recipient of the Dr. Morris B. Bender Award in Clinical Neurology. He completed his medical internship and neurology residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Friedman then subspecialized by completing a two year fellowship in neuro-oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Friedman is developing a leading liquid biopsy program to revolutionize how we diagnose, monitor, and evaluate brain tumors. To this end, he applies techniques of obtaining tumor pathology from a minimally invasive lumbar puncture that can be used for diagnosis, disease response monitoring, and tracking tumor evolution. Dr. Friedman’s research in collaboration with the Departments of Pathology and Genomics aims to uncover a new mechanism for understanding the genomic landscape of glioma. Additionally, a significant portion of Dr. Friedman’s research focuses on leading clinical research trials for both primary and metastatic brain cancers to help develop an extensive translational clinical research portfolio that provides patients an array of therapeutic trial options.

Dr. Friedman conducts visits in person or via telemedicine based on the unique needs of each patient.
