Paul Kenny, PhD, Appointed Chair of the Department of Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai
Renowned neurobiologist Paul Kenny, PhD, has been named Chairman of the Department of Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. Kenny is an internationally recognized expert in the study of the neurobiology of obesity and drug addiction. His multidisciplinary studies use behavioral paradigms, physiological and circuit analyses, and molecular characterization of neurobehavioral disorders to uncover new signaling cascades that may play a role in these disorders.

Prior to taking on this new role, Dr. Kenny served as Chairman of the Department of Pharmacology and System Therapeutics. He was recruited to Mount Sinai from The Scripps Research Institute in Florida in 2014, and since then has continued to build on his compelling scientific vision. Dr. Kenny will continue to serve as Director of the Mount Sinai Experimental Therapeutics Institute.
Dr. Kenny completed his PhD in Neuroscience at King's College London. After postdoctoral training at The Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, Dr. Kenny became Assistant Professor of Molecular Therapeutics at the Institute’s campus in Florida. Dr. Kenny has also served as Director of the Medications Development Program in Substance-Related Disorders at Scripps.
He has won numerous awards, including several Young Investigator Awards from groups that include the Society for Neuroscience, the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression, and the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco. He is an editor of The Journal of Neuroscience, and an editorial board member of several additional journals. Dr. Kenny is also a member of the National Advisory Council on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA).
