Philip Pizzano’s Story
Philip Pizzano is a former semi-professional soccer player who suffered from knee pain that prevented him from being able to play sports, run without knee pain, or play with his young son as he wanted.
Philip was diagnosed with osteochondritis dissecans, a knee condition in which the bone beneath the cartilage of the joint dies due to lack of blood. Initially, Philip was treated by a local doctor who performed a microfracture surgery. He continued to have years of pain.
After extensive research and discussing his issue with others who had the same problem, Philip reached out to Alexis Colvin, MD, a renowned Mount Sinai Health System orthopedic surgeon.
Successful Treatment
After meeting with Philip, Dr. Colvin performed an allograft transplant on Philip’s knee, using human bone and cartilage from an anonymous donor. The transplant was a success. Following extensive rehab, Philip recovered fully.
Today, Philip remains pain free. He leads a normal life, and is able to play with his son. Thanks to the care he received at Mount Sinai Health System, Philip is the active father he always wanted to be.
