Department of Surgery Telemedicine Appointments

We offer high-quality and efficient telemedicine/video appointments for qualified surgical patients. This service allows you to have a live video/audio visit with our world-class surgeons on your smartphone, tablet or computer, either from the comfort of your home or while on the go.

We recognize that this is a very stressful time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and you may feel uneasy about coming in to the doctor’s office. We want to make your health care experience as comfortable and as convenient as possible. In some instances, telemedicine visits are a good way to connect with your surgeon to discuss your condition, or questions you may have. However, some surgical appointments require an in-person visit. Given the nature of your surgical condition, your surgeon will determine if a video visit is right for you. When scheduling your appointment, the doctor’s office will suggest a video visit if appropriate.

Please note: In order to be seen via video visit, you will need an active MyMountSinai account, further instructions are below.

Please call your doctor’s office directly for help signing up for MyMountSinai, to request a video visit, or for general questions.

Frequently Asked Questions about Telemedicine

Which surgical specialties are offering telemedicine/video visits?
All surgeons in all of our surgical divisions now offer telemedicine visits, please see our surgical team directory for a list of our providers and their office contact information.

However, please note that the service works better for some specialties/cases than others. Patients whose care requires multiple pre- and post-operation visits, such as bariatric or plastic surgery patients, may benefit most from this service.

What types of appointments can take place via video visits?
Telemedicine appointments are generally a great alternative to in-office visits for pre- and post-op care. If your surgeon believes a telemedicine visit can replace an in-office visit, they will offer that option to you.

How do I book a telemedicine appointment?
You can book your appointment online by contacting your providers’ office using MyMountSinai. You may also call your doctor’s office directly to request your telemedicine appointment. To find your provider’s office phone number, see our team directory.

Your doctor will decide if your visit is eligible for a telemedicine video visit and your doctor’s office will contact you directly to schedule the appointment. Your doctor will make the decision based on what needs to be done at the time of the appointment and our staff will book accordingly.

How do I conduct my telemedicine appointment?
You can conduct MyMountSinai telemedicine appointments using the MyMountSinai app (which you can find and download in the Google Play store or iTunes) on any Android, iOS phone, or tablet released in the last few years.

Visit our MyMountSinai webpage, where you will find detailed instructions on how to register for a MyMountSinai account if you don’t have one, how to download and use the app for your visit, and what you will need to do to prepare.

Is my health care information safe while participating in this online visit?
Mount Sinai employs encrypted, HIPAA-compliant technology to connect you to our doctors. No one is present in the room with the doctor or listening on the line; you can confidently discuss your health in an environment of secure privacy and confidentiality.

Is there a copay for a telemedicine visit?
Yes, there is a copay for appointments not related to COVID-19.
