About Us

The Mount Sinai Health System is nationally and internationally known for our Neurosurgery Services. We treat a wide variety of conditions using state-of-the-art treatment modalities, all with a collaborative approach.

We employ highly advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Computerized Tomography (CT) that utilize the latest scanning technology to provide accurate imaging results. These powerful whole-body scanners produce clear images quickly to minimize your stay in the scanner bore and to avoid image blurring.

Utilizing the latest state-of-the-art imaging paradigms for neurosurgical disorders, our MRI equipment includes 3 Tesla (3T) Siemens MAGNETOM Skyra and GE Discovery MR750. We also utilize dual-energy CT to accurately scan vascular disorders and post-treatment changes. We use the latest imaging methodology including MR diffusion and tractography and functional MRI that are used for accurate treatment planning before your surgery. After surgery, we use highly advanced MR methodology including MRI diffusion and perfusion to distinguish recurrent disease from expected post-treatment changes to avoid unnecessary reoperation. For research, we have access to the latest imaging technology including a whole body 7 Tesla (7T) MR scanner and a PET-MRI.

Under the leadership of Joshua B. Bederson, MD, FACS, Professor and System Chair of Neurosurgery of the Mount Sinai Health System, our physicians are constantly researching new approaches to minimally invasive neurosurgery, spinal disease, and management of neurovascular abnormalities and tumors of the nervous system. We use advanced procedures such as simulation-guided intracranial surgery, robotic-assisted surgery, endoscopic techniques, laser ablation therapies, spinal reconstruction and peripheral nerve surgery, and intracranial neuroendoscopy. These techniques enable us to reduce surgical complications, shorten hospital stays, and minimize cosmetic concerns. When possible, we perform minimally invasive, computer-assisted, image-guided neurosurgery procedures that require smaller incisions and minimal anesthesia. Our anesthesiologists, physician assistants, and nurses specialize in neurosurgical care, ensuring a multidisciplinary team approach tailored for your specific needs.
