For over 110 years, The Mount Sinai Hospital Department of Social Work Services has been a model for service, education and research and an integral part of the health care team. We provide compassionate care and exceptional service for all patients. With the assistance of a remarkable Auxiliary Board, innovative administrators and socially-oriented physicians, the Department has developed from a single social worker to a staff of over 500 today. Social Workers at Mount Sinai have been recognized on local, national and international levels. We are proud of our history at the forefront of the profession.

Programs and Services

The Mount Sinai Hospital offers comprehensive social work services and programming to meet the myriad needs of the populations we serve. We believe that total patient care must emphasize the physical, emotional, and social needs of each patient and their care partners. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level including both direct care and prevention. Social Work Services can be found in the following sectors across The Mount Sinai Hospital:

• Emergency Services. Social Workers deliver invaluable crisis services to patients and families in our Pediatric, Adult, and Psychiatric Emergency Departments.
• Inpatient Services. Every inpatient unit at Mount Sinai has a designated Social Worker who specializes in disease-specific needs as well as the unique needs of Pediatric, Adult and Geriatric patients.  
• Ambulatory Services. We provide extensive individual and group social work services in most ambulatory settings including Pediatrics, Adolescent, OBGYN, Adult Primary Care and Specialty, and Psychiatry.
• Care Management. Social Workers, Care Coordinators, and Nurse Clinical Coordinators are at the forefront of helping patients navigate the complexities of the health care system and preventing hospital readmissions.
