Engagement Councils and Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
What is an engagement council?
Engagement councils are committees supported and commissioned by executive and senior leadership to champion health equity and inclusion. Committees exist at Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) hospitals, the Corporate Services Center, the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and within centers and departments across the health system. All MSHS faculty, staff, trainees, and students are welcome to join!
What is an employee resource group?
Employee resource groups (ERGs)are groups of employees united by common goals, interests and characteristics. ERGs are system-wide with local chapters at health system hospitals and the Corporate Services Center. All MSHS faculty, staff, trainees, and students are welcome to join!
What is the role of engagement councils and ERGs?
Engagement councils and ERGs are charged to provide education and support activities to serve our staff, patients, and communities to allow for the best health outcomes by:
- seeking innovative ways to address the needs of faculty, staff, trainee, student, and patient populations to promote belongingness and enhance the patient experience;
- presenting site- or department-specific recommendations for implementation which support the strategic goals of the organization; and
- facilitating effective communication among faculty, staff, and students through educational, cultural, and social activities.
Through their participation, engagement council and ERG members can:
- network with colleagues across the health system;
- lead projects and engagement activities; and
- invest in their professional development and growth.
