At Mount Sinai, our goal is to provide the best care possible to our patients. This includes equipping our patients with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to live their healthiest lives.
The Stanley Mirsky, MD, Diabetes Education Unit offers virtual classes that will provide you with the knowledge and tools to take an active role in your diabetes care. If you are interested in attending any of these classes, please email DiabetesClasses@mssm.edu.
Diabetes Self-Management Classes
Our classes help you gain the knowledge and skills you need throughout your diabetes journey. They also connect you with other patients living with diabetes. Our classes are led by certified diabetes care and education specialists who have extensive experience caring for and educating patients with both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.
We encourage you to invite family members and caregivers to attend our classes with you. Please email us to learn more about any of the following classes:
Type 2 Diabetes Class (Virtual)
- Free and open to all patients with type 2 diabetes, their caregivers, and family members. Patients with pre-diabetes are also welcome to attend, as many of the topics apply to type 2 diabetes prevention.
- Meets twice per month from January to May.
- Covers a variety of topics including understanding the basics of diabetes, healthy eating, heart health, exercise, stress and relaxation tips, and medications and devices to help manage diabetes.

Understanding Pump Therapy
A class for patients with type 1 diabetes who are interested in insulin pump therapy.
Getting the Most Out of Insulin Pump Therapy
This class is designed for patients already using insulin pump therapy. Learn about topics such as managing glucose when eating high-fat meals, exercise, and how to use the extended bolus feature (available on some pump systems).
Meet Our Class Team Leaders
Camilla Levister, MS, ANP-C, CDCES, has been a registered nurse for more than15 years and a nurse practitioner and certified diabetes care and education specialist at Mount Sinai for more than 10 years. She started her nursing career with the goal of treating patients with diabetes and providing them with the tools to empower and motivate them in their day-to-day experience with diabetes. Ms. Levister provides comprehensive diabetes care to patients in the Mount Sinai Diabetes Clinic and has a robust background in diabetes research. She has made contributions as a principal investigator and co-investigator to numerous diabetes-related research studies, including those specific to type 1 and type 2 diabetes, diabetes in pregnancy, and diabetes technology.
Madeleine Rouviere, RDN, CDCES, is a registered dietitian and certified diabetes care and education specialist committed to helping patients navigate their experience with diabetes. She strives to help patients understand how to best manage diabetes and supports patients by implementing personalized, sustainable nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle goals to improve health and quality of life.
About the Stanley Mirsky, MD, Diabetes Education Unit
In 2012, Susan Mirsky, wife of the late Stanley Mirsky, MD, hosted an event to honor Dr. Mirsky’s enduring commitment to diabetes education and patient care following his passing in 2011. This event raised the generous support needed to ensure that education remains a cornerstone of diabetes care and outreach.
