Hemangiomatosis

Patients with hemangiomatosis have multiple (typically five or more) hemangiomas scattered anywhere on the skin. In addition to being present on the skin, the hemangiomas may involve internal organs, such as the liver, the gastrointestinal tract, or pulmonary system. Since hemangiomatosis can impact internal organs, in rare cases, patients can develop serious complications, such as heart failure, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and other complications depending on the location of the hemangioma.

Our birthmark specialists will monitor and evaluate each case with ultrasound and/or CT/MRI imaging.  Such close surveillance is especially important during the hemangioma’s growth phase to rule out internal lesions and potential damage to internal organs.
