The Lilian and Benjamin Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute

At Mount Sinai, we have embraced palliative care as a vital part of the care we provide to you and your family. The Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute provides care to all seriously ill patients and their families throughout the Mount Sinai Health System. Patients with complex needs can be cared for around the clock in the 14-bed Wiener Family Palliative Care Unit at The Mount Sinai Hospital.

Our palliative care teams include: palliative medicine specialist physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, chaplains, registered nurses, physicians receiving additional training in palliative medicine (post-graduate fellows), licensed massage therapists, yoga specialists, art therapists, and child-life specialists. The Hertzberg Institute also provides an active and expanding community palliative care program.

The mission of the Hertzberg Institute is to ensure that all seriously ill patients and their families achieve the best quality of life possible. We achieve this mission through the care provided by our hospital and community palliative care programs, educating the next generation of health care professionals, and engaging in ground-breaking research.
