Asthma
If your child is one of the many of the growing number of children with asthma symptoms, he or she may be missing out on school, sports, and other activities. At Mount Sinai, we provide state-of-the-art care to treat and manage this respiratory disorder, allowing your child to participate in regular childhood activities without asthma symptoms.
Our pediatric pulmonary specialists treat different types of asthma, including chronic asthma, exercise-induced asthma, chronic cough, chronic rhinitis and sinusitis, and wheezing. Your child’s pediatric pulmonary doctor will develop a comprehensive program for your child that combines essential components of our family-centered pediatric asthma program:
- Pulmonary function testing
- Allergy testing
- Environmental assessment
- Nutritional evaluation
- Education
- Family services
Once we identify your child’s asthma triggers, we work with your family to design a personalized asthma action plan. These plans include educational and social services as well as referrals to community-based resources. At Mount Sinai, we also have available a complex asthma clinic geared toward patients who are not being helped by aggressive conventional therapy.
