Mount Sinai Outpatient and Specialty Pharmacies
The Mount Sinai Outpatient and Specialty Pharmacies provide pharmaceutical care to Mount Sinai outpatients and specialty pharmacy patients. For patients requiring specialty medications, we have dedicated liaisons to help identify and obtain patient financial-assistance services and programs, medication-adherence programs, personalized refill reminders, on-call pharmacist support and home delivery. We also offer free language assistance to patients whose primary languages are not English and to those who are visually impaired, deaf, or hard of hearing. We work closely with you and your doctor to bring you the best possible care.
Specialty Pharmacy
If you have a rare or chronic condition, you may need a specialty medication. These high-cost and complicated drugs are often not available at the local drug store. Our Drug Take-Back Program
There are many reasons to dispose of your unused medications safely. Failure to do so may result in accidental misuse or overdose, loss of effectiveness, and contamination of the environment. That’s why Mount Sinai and federal and state governments have programs to make it easy to return unused medications.
The Mount Sinai Health System has three collection locations—The Mount Sinai Hospital, Mount Sinai Queens, and Mount Sinai South Nassau. These Drug Take-Back kiosks are easily available to the public to safely dispose of unwanted, expired, or unnecessary medications. Since the first kiosk opened in 2022, we have collected more than 700 pounds of unwanted or expired medications.
There are also many Drug Take-Back kiosks located across New York State, sponsored by the state and federal governments. You can find one near you by searching the New York State Department of Health or U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) “Take Back” websites. Every April and October, the DEA also sponsors a “Drug Take-Back Day”, when you can drop off unwanted or expired medication at centralized collection locations. If you are unable to bring your medications to a disposal site or event, you can request free mail-in packages through the New York State Department of Health.
Reduce the chances of your medications finding their way into the hands of children or the environment—dispose of them safely today.
