Milestones
Today more people are living longer than ever before because of organ transplantation. As a world leader in the advances that have made this possible, Mount Sinai’s Recanati-Miller Transplantation Institute (RMTI) has had many “firsts” since its inception.
Here are just a few of RMTI’s milestones:
2017: 4,000th liver transplant at Mount Sinai
2016: FIRST HIV-HIV liver and kidney transplant
2012: Establishment of the Charles Miller, MD Endowed Chair
2010: 250th Living Liver Donor Transplant
2010: Creation of the Zweig Family Center for Living Donation
2008: 3,000th liver transplant at Mount Sinai
2008: 2,000th kidney transplant at Mount Sinai
2001: FIRST domino liver transplant in New York State
2001: FIRST HIV+ patient to receive kidney transplant in New York State
2001: 1,000th kidney transplant at Mount Sinai
2000: 2,000th liver transplant at Mount Sinai
1998: FIRST HIV+ patient to receive a liver transplant in New York State
1998: FIRST pediatric liver-intestine transplant in New York State
1998: FIRST multivisceral (stomach, small intestine, pancreas and liver) transplant in New York State
1996: FIRST laparoscopic donor nephrectomy in New York State
1994: FIRST pancreas transplant at Mount Sinai
