Frequently Asked Questions about Telemedicine

What is telemedicine?
Telemedicine, or telehealth, is the use of electronic technology to connect patients with healthcare providers through video meetings or phone calls. Patients can speak with their medical providers during appointments without leaving their homes.

What does the telemedicine visit include?
You may speak with a medical provider and a workers’ compensation coordinator. The medical provider will complete a medical history and address any health concerns you may have.

What is not included in the telemedicine visit?
We are not able to complete a full physical exam using telehealth. You will be able to schedule the rest of your visit in our offices.

What is the best way to schedule my telemedicine appointment?
As always, you can reach us at 1-888-702-0630. Please leave a message with your first and last name and the best phone number to reach you, we will get back to you as soon as possible. You can also reach your medical provider for any non-urgent matters through MyChart or via email, at occmed@mountsinai.org.

What kind of phone, tablet, or computer setup is required, and is it secure?
Telemedicine services are available through cell phones, computers, and tablets (like iPads). When making your appointment, we will provide instructions for setting up your visit. These telephonic and video systems ensure that you have privacy to discuss your health with the provider. No one will be in the room with the medical provider or listening on the line.

MyChart telemedicine appointments can be performed using the MyChart app (found in the Google Play store or iTunes) on any Android, iOS phone, or tablet released in the last few years.

Once you have scheduled an appointment, visit our MyChart webpage to find instructions entailing how to download and use the app MyChart for your video visit, and what to do in preparation of your video visit.

How should I prepare for the visit?
We suggest that you find a space in your household where you can comfortably speak with your provider. Please make sure that your device (phone, tablet, or computer) is fully charged and you have a good Wi-Fi connection or cellular coverage. Please have a list of your current medications available during the call.
