Palliative Care

Chaplaincy and Bereavement Support

Throughout the Mount Sinai Health System, we offer counseling, chaplaincy, and support groups. Palliative care trained chaplains who are experienced in the needs of seriously ill patients and their families are available to our hospitalized patients.

Feeling grief is a normal part of experiencing loss and can include physical and emotional symptoms. Grief is also a healing process that is different for each person, even those in the same family. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, nor is there a set time limit for grieving. We recognize that loss is painful, and no one should have to go through it alone.

The Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute provides bereavement support to families and friends who have experienced the loss of a loved one. We can meet with you or arrange telephone sessions for supportive counseling during this time. We are also able to connect you with services and support groups within the community for additional and continued support.

Memorial services for bereaved families, loved ones, and hospital staff are held each fall and spring at The Mount Sinai Hospital.
