The Mount Sinai Kravis Kidney Stone Clinic is a comprehensive, interdisciplinary program focused on the diagnosis, management, and prevention of kidney stones for children. Our team of physicians, nurse practitioners, technicians, and nutritionists work together to provide you and your child with personalized treatment. Kidney stones can be scary for kids (and parents), but we are here to help you understand how stones form, how to treat them, and what you can do to stop them from coming back. Our goal is to help kids with kidney stones live their healthiest possible lives.
In the office, you’ll meet our team of nephrologists (medical kidney stone doctors), urologists (surgical kidney stone doctors) and nutritionists. Behind the scenes there is an even bigger team of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and technicians like radiologists and laboratory specialists who help us figure out if your child has a kidney stone, what kind of kidney stone they have, and how we can prevent more stones in the future. This may include changing what your child eats, drinks, and overall diet to stop stones from forming. Sometimes, medication is needed to prevent stones from coming back.
You may also meet some of our Child Life specialists who can make the whole process a lot less scary. In the operating room, we work with special anesthesiologists trained just in helping kids through surgical procedures. Their expertise helps your child get through the stone procedure—whether that be laser lithotripsy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, or extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy.

Our medical co-director, Jeff Saland, MD, is a leading expert in genetic diseases that cause some children to form stones more quickly and more often, and works with the team to decrease stone formation for your child. Our surgical team of Neha Malhotra, MD, Fernando Ferrer, MD, Jeffrey Stock, MD, and Eva Baldisserotto, MSN, RN, CPNP-PC, CPHON work closely together and with our partners in adult urology to provide children of all ages with all the surgical options for kidney stone treatment, if needed. By working together as a team, our goal is to stop kidney stones from forming so that she or he does not need surgery in the future.
