Chief Executive Officer, Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice; Dean for Clinical Affairs, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai; Senior Vice President for Ambulatory Operations, Mount Sinai Health System

Kelly Cassano, DO, is Chief Executive Officer of the Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She is also Senior Vice President of Ambulatory Operations for the Mount Sinai Health System and Dean for Clinical Affairs at Icahn Mount Sinai, roles she has held since 2020.

Dr. Cassano joined the faculty at Icahn Mount Sinai in 2015 as Associate Professor of Medicine (General Internal Medicine). Over the years, she has been an outstanding, hands-on leader of Faculty Practice ambulatory services at our campuses on the Upper East Side, Downtown, and the West Side. She is a practicing internist who has held progressively broader management roles in ambulatory care, from Medical Director of the West Park Medical Group to Chief of Ambulatory Care at Mount Sinai Downtown to Medical Director of Mount Sinai-Union Square.

Her responsibilities for the faculty practices and ambulatory operations include oversight of financial performance, operations, clinical programs, and strategic growth. This includes overall improvement of financial performance, improved operational infrastructure, real estate development, cultural transformation, shifting from volume-based to value-based programs, physician recruitment, and enhancement of strategic partnerships.

The practices and ambulatory locations for which she is responsible include approximately 300 sites and 2,500 physicians. In 2020, these locations saw 4.5 million patient visits.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Cassano has provided extraordinary leadership including aligning testing sites, establishing vaccination pods, developing return-to-practice guidelines for a safe work environment, and improving patient access. Additionally, Dr. Cassano spearheaded initiatives on maintaining financial stability, improving patient experience, and expanding telehealth options system-wide.

Dr. Cassano’s current focus will be leading the Faculty Practice through the pandemic surge, ensuring that all patients receive needed on-site and telehealth services. Over the long term, Dr. Cassano is overseeing efforts to develop and execute a vision for the future that encompasses sustaining high standards of patient care; integrating practices across the Health System to strengthen cohesion, identity, and commitment; growing the Faculty Practice in a rapidly changing environment, and pursuing operational improvements.
