Kelly Cassano, DO, is Executive Vice President and Chief of Ambulatory Care for the Mount Sinai Health System, Chief Executive Officer of the Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice, and Dean for Ambulatory Operations at Icahn Mount Sinai.
Dr. Cassano plays a key role in shaping the patient experience and is working to unify patient access, experience, safety, and care quality across all of the Mount Sinai ambulatory practices. She seeks to ensure that the patient's journey looks and feels the same no matter which practice the patient is visiting. Working closely with other leadership, she will develop and advance the growth and strategy of ambulatory care across all of Mount Sinai Health System.
Dr. Cassano joined the faculty at Icahn Mount Sinai in 2015 as Associate Professor of Medicine (General Internal Medicine). Over the years, she has been an outstanding, hands-on leader of Faculty Practice ambulatory services at our campuses on the Upper East Side, Downtown, and the West Side. She is a practicing internist who has held progressively broader management roles in ambulatory care, from Medical Director of the West Park Medical Group to Chief of Ambulatory Care at Mount Sinai Downtown to Medical Director of Mount Sinai-Union Square.
Her responsibilities include overall improvement of financial performance, improved operational infrastructure, real estate development, cultural transformation, shifting from volume-based to value-based programs, physician recruitment, and enhancement of strategic partnerships. The practices and ambulatory locations for which she is responsible include more than 400 sites. In 2024, these locations saw 5.7 million patient visits.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Cassano provided extraordinary leadership including aligning testing sites, establishing vaccination pods, developing return-to-practice guidelines for a safe work environment, and improving patient access. Additionally, Dr. Cassano spearheaded initiatives on maintaining financial stability, improving patient experience, and expanding telehealth options system-wide.
Over the long term, Dr. Cassano is overseeing efforts to develop and execute a vision for the future that encompasses sustaining high standards of patient care; integrating practices across the Health System to strengthen cohesion, identity, and commitment; growing the Faculty Practice and Ambulatory Care in a rapidly changing environment, and pursuing operational excellence.
