U.S. News and World Report Ranks The Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital Among the Nation’s Best

Mount Sinai recognized for providing distinguished pediatric care in gastroenterology, nephrology, diabetes/endocrinology, and pulmonology.

The Mount Sinai Kravis Children’s Hospital ranked among the country’s best children’s hospitals in four specialties, according to U.S. News and World Report. In the 2011-12 edition of "America’s Best Children’s Hospitals," Mount Sinai was recognized for providing distinguished pediatric care in gastroenterology, nephrology, diabetes and endocrinology, and pulmonology.

The U.S. News rankings recognize the top 50 children’s hospitals in 10 specialties: cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology. The rankings are determined by three criteria: reputation, patient outcomes, and care-related indicators such as infection-control programs, surgical volume, and nurse-patient ratio.

Now in its fifth year, the Best Children’s Hospitals survey pulls together clinical and operational data from a lengthy questionnaire that is completed by the majority of the hospitals asked to participate for the 2011-12 rankings. The participating hospitals are asked questions about survival rates, nurse staffing, subspecialist availability, and other critical pieces of information. The data from the survey is combined with recommendations from pediatric specialists on the hospitals they consider best for children with challenging problems.
