David L. Reich, MD, Named President of The Mount Sinai Hospital
Dr. Reich has served in an interim capacity since January 2013.
David L. Reich, MD, has been named President and Chief Operating Officer of The Mount Sinai Hospital, effective immediately. He has served in an interim capacity since January 2013, when Mount Sinai began a nationwide search for this position, with Dr. Reich as a candidate.
Dr. Reich, the Horace W. Goldsmith Professor and Chair of Anesthesiology since 2004, will continue to serve as Chair, while Mount Sinai conducts a new search to fill the Chair position.

"He has provided exceptional leadership during his interim period, engineering creative solutions to relieve overcrowding in the Emergency Department, improving utilization of our operating rooms, and initiating design and construction projects to improve our capacity to deliver quaternary care and improve our infrastructure."

Dr. Reich first arrived at Mount Sinai in 1984, and later completed a residency in anesthesiology and a fellowship in cardiothoracic anesthesia. Prior to his residency in anesthesiology, Dr. Reich completed two years of general surgery residency training at Harbor/UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, California. He received his Bachelor of Science degree with highest distinction from Pennsylvania State University in 1980, and his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia in 1982, through the Penn State-Jefferson Five-Year Cooperative Program.
Dr. Reich served as President of The Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Board in 2011-2012. For 11 years, he has served on Mount Sinai's Appointments and Promotions Committee, and for nine years on the Executive Committee of the Mount Sinai Doctors Faculty Practice, Mount Sinai's multispecialty group practice. Dr. Reich also chairs the Faculty Practice Contracts Committee and serves on the Board of the Independent Practice Association. In 2011, Mount Sinai's nurses and Nursing leadership honored Dr. Reich with the 24th Annual Physician of the Year Special Recognition Award.
His research interests include neurocognitive outcome following cardiac surgery, outcome effects of intraoperative hemodynamics, medical informatics, and hemodynamic monitoring. He has published greater than 130 peer-reviewed articles, 30 invited articles or editorials, and 35 book chapters. He remains actively involved as a lecturer and leader in anesthesiology societies and international efforts to standardize medical ontologies.
In addition, Dr. Reich is an associate editor of the text Cardiac Anesthesia, lead editor of Monitoring in Anesthesia and Perioperative Care, and co-editor of the first edition of Perioperative Transesophageal Echocardiography, which is currently in press. He remains actively involved in clinical and informatics research in perioperative outcomes.
