Steven A. Cohen and his wife, Alexandra Cohen, have provided a generous gift to The Mount Sinai Medical Center to support a newly-renovated labor and delivery floor, which includes a state-of-the-art antepartum unit. In recognition of the gift, the floor was renamed The Steven and Alexandra Cohen Center for Labor and Birth. A dedication ceremony and celebration took place on May 30.

"Steven and Alexandra's generous gift will allow Mount Sinai to increase our projected number of births from 6,000 prior to the renovation to an anticipated 7,000 births in the coming year," said Michael Brodman, MD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at The Mount Sinai Medical Center. "Their philanthropic leadership will help women, newborns and families to experience the most advanced technology in maternal care in a modern and comfortable environment. I am very grateful for their support." The Cohen's have contributed $5.5 million since they became involved with Mount Sinai.

The Steven and Alexandra Cohen Center for Labor and Birth is located on the second floor of the Klingenstein Clinical Health Center on Fifth Avenue and overlooks Central Park. The 15,000-square-foot space features a reception area, staff lounge, administrative offices, a private triage room, four private antepartum fetal surveillance rooms, three short-term triage bays, and 18 birthing rooms. Each room includes new lighting, plumbing fixtures with touchless sensors, an on-call nurse system, electronic fetal-monitoring machines, comfortable recliners for spouses, and flat screen TVs.

"Our goal is to provide quality, compassionate care and excellent medical services throughout our patients' childbirth experience and beyond," said Raymond Sandler, MD, Director of Labor and Delivery in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Science at Mount Sinai.

"We are pleased that the Foundation's gift has helped to make this day possible.  We are delighted to be partners with Mount Sinai in furthering the foundation's goal of advancing healthy labor and delivery," said Steven A. Cohen.
