"Dementia Tab Set to Top $200 Billion"
Costs associated with dementia amounted to between $159 billion and $215 billion in the U.S. in 2010, and are expected to increase nearly 80% per adult by 2040, according to a RAND study. “The study tells us that the cost of care for patients with Alzheimer’s disease is quite huge,” said Dr. Mary Sano from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “We know that it’s an estimate of over $10 billion for Medicare costs, but that’s only a drop in the bucket for the total cost of care for dementia.”
