Dr. Jeffrey Weiss: “Hepatitis C Management: It Takes a Team”
During the International Conference on Viral Hepatitis, held recently in New York, participants in a panel discussion titled "Managing Viral Hepatitis in Primary Health Care Settings and Exploring the Role of Non-Physician Clinicians" convened afterwards for a discussion. “As we see primary care transitioning from a single provider to a team-based endeavor, we will see everybody coming to the table and helping to take care of these patients,” said Donald Gardenier, DNP, FNP-BC, Assistant Professor of Medicine at The Mount Sinai Hospital. “Primary care is the place where people first come into care. With increased efforts on screening, easier treatments, and more knowledge about HCV treatments, it's natural that we are going to see primary care providers launching into this area.” Jeffrey Weiss, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine and General Internal Medicine, and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at The Mount Sinai Hospital, said, “I expect that it is going to be important to more broadly educate mental health providers about HCV and the unique aspects of working around the stigma of HCV and the comorbid psychiatric and substance use conditions that can impair adherence to HCV treatment.” Learn more
