MS: Nontraditional Therapies of Most Concern?
What nontraditional therapies that patients use for multiple sclerosis (MS) do experts find the most concerning? “The short answer is: I find them all concerning,” said Fred Lublin, MD, Director of the Corinne Goldsmith Dickinson Center for Multiple Sclerosis at the Mount Sinai Health System, and Saunders Family Professor of Neurology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “Without proper testing, we don’t know that they’re effective. We [also] don’t know if they’re safe. The third issue is that we often don’t know what’s in the bottle. Without the control of the ingredients, which is done by regulatory authorities, you may not be getting what you’re thinking you’re getting.”
