Mr. Stephen Berger Presents Grand Rounds on January 8th
Stephen Berger will present the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health’s January Grand Rounds. His presentation, entitled “The Changing Nature of Health Care Delivery,” will give an overview of the health care system in New York City, address the complex interface between health planning and politics, and explore the role that community physicians might play in helping to shape NYC’s health care landscape.
Mr. Berger has more than five decades of experience in financial services, higher education and the public sector. He has served as Chief Executive Officer of both private and public organizations, board member, corporate director, private equity investor and University Professor. As Director of the New York State Study Commission on New York City in the early 1970’s, he led a major analysis of the Health and Hospital Corporation. He went on to serve as Social Services Commissioner for New York State, where he was responsible for supervising the Medicaid program. Mr. Berger has since chaired the Government Task Force on Health Care Reform from 2003-2005 and the New York State Commission on Health Care Facilities in the 21st Century from 2003-2006, which resulted in the first major restructuring of New York State’s health care system in decades. As a member of Governor Cuomo’s Medicaid Redesign Team, he chaired the Health System Redesign Group, which proposed a restructuring of Brooklyn’s Hospitals and Primary Care Facilities. He presently serves as a member of State’s Value Based Pricing Committee and the DSRIP Project Approval and Oversight Panel.
As part of the Mount Sinai Health System’s virtual campus, videoconferencing will be offered with the Beth Israel Medical Center’s Department of Family Medicine and the Mount Sinai-affiliated Mid-Hudson Family Practice Residency in Kingston.
The event will be held from 8-9am on Friday, January 8th in Mount Sinai’s Hatch Auditorium in the Guggenheim Pavilion (1468 Madison Avenue), 2nd Floor. A light breakfast will be served at 7:45am.
Department of Family Medicine and Community Health Grand Rounds are supported with a generous donation from the Steven A. and Alexandra M. Cohen Foundation. Grand Rounds are open to all and occur on the second Friday of every month throughout the year.
