Interacting with therapy dogs can have a positive effect on cancer patients.
A new study says man’s best friend can also give an emotional lift to those suffering from cancer. A six year study from Mount Sinai Beth Israel found that canine companions improve the patients’ emotional and social wellbeing. Daniel Labow, MD, a surgeon at The Mount Sinai Hospital, believes that therapy dogs can play a crucial role in a patient’s recovery. He says, “In many ways it keeps them alive because it keeps them motivated to get the treatment.” Learn more
