"How Mount Sinai Is Helping House Calls Make A Comeback" - Caroline Lewis

House calls may seem like a relic of a bygone era. But with the rise of value-based payments, they’re due for a comeback, according to the Home Centered Care Institute. To prepare for their return, the organization is providing funding to the Mount Sinai Health System to train 5,000 clinicians over the next five years to provide home-based primary care to medically complex and homebound patients. “It’s so frustrating when a patient we’ve taken care of moves to Long Island or Westchester and we don’t have a list of doctors who can do house calls in those areas,” said Linda DeCherrie, MD, director of the Mount Sinai Visiting Doctors Program and associate professor of geriatrics and palliative medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The first training session at Mount Sinai will take place November 30 and is expected to attract about 30 or 40 clinicians and practice managers from inside and outside the system.
