"A 'High-Intensity' Physician Schools A Med Student on Fighting Burnout" -Meera Jagannathan
Jordyn Feingold, MAPP, medical student and a positive psychology practitioner at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, first decided she wanted to go to med school during her high school biology class. Today, she is easing a dual MD and Master of Science in clinical research degree through Mount Sinai’s Patient-Oriented Research Training and Leadership (PORTAL) program. PORTAL drew Feingold into the orbit of Janice Gabrilove, MD, director of the clinical research education program at Icahn’s Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences. Bubbling with questions and eager to tap into the hematologist-oncologist’s ‘wealth of knowledge and wisdom,’ Feingold recently sat down with her former professor in an episode of the Moneyish original series Good Company, which matches millennials with veterans in their field for mentorship and conversation. The most important advice Dr. Gabrilove had for an enterprising third-year med student was to “ask for advice, even when you don’t need it.” You want to feel valued; the people around you want to feel valued as well, she said.
