"Mount Sinai Hospital First In The State To Be Accredited As A Geriatric Emergency Department"
The Mount Sinai Hospital has become the first in the state to specialize in emergency geriatric treatment. It is one of eight departments in the nation to receive this accreditation. The Emergency Care Research Institute says geriatric adults, aged 65 and older account for up to 25 percent of all emergency room visits. Denise Nassisi, MD, director of the geriatric emergency department at The Mount Sinai Hospital says the elderly require specialized treatment. That includes assessing their risk of falling and a review of the patients medication history.
