"New Medicare Advantage Options" - Bertha Coombs
Medicare enrollment is currently underway and this year some private insurers are offering a new option designed to keep you out of the hospital. When 87-year-old Manuel Rivera developed a serious infection last spring, he was relieved when doctors at New York’s Mount Sinai Health System offered to hospitalize him at home. Kenneth L. Davis, MD, president and CEO of the Mount Sinai Health System said the new program resulted in 25 percent savings on average and data showed readmissions were cut in half. “We found that patients were happier, costs were lower, outcomes were better, and the patient satisfaction was higher. So on every metric we measured, this was a better way to deliver care,” he said.
