"The Ten Most Common Types of Cancer in the United States" – Denise Mann
Early detection and game-changing new treatments are making headway against the ten most common types of cancer in the United States. Lung cancer screening remains extremely underutilized, said Nicholas Rohs, MD assistant professor of hematology and medical oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “Genomics has revolutionized the face of lung cancer. We can now subtype lung cancers and choose treatments based on specific characteristics of the tumor,” he explains. “Targeted therapies are oral, well-tolerated startlingly effective.” Prostate cancer screening recommendations have changed over the years, said Bobby Liaw, MD, assistant professor of medicine, hematology and medical oncology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “We can test cancer cells to learn how or if the cancer will progress, and then use this information guide treatment options,” he added.
