The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai has teamed up with young athletes to create the scholar athletes with academic goals program, known better as S.W.A.G. It inspires athletes to become doctors, scientists, and healthcare professionals. “The good news for us is that we’ve been on this journey as a school for more than twenty years,” said Gary Butts, MD, dean for diversity programs, policy, and community affairs at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “The conversation started about two years ago around the recognition of a lack of black and Latino males in science and medicine,” added Reginald Miller, DVM, DACLAM, associate professor and director of comparative medicine and surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
