"Ureteroscopy Is Most Popular Choice for Urolithiasis" - Natasha Persaud
Ureteroscopy has been on the rise, while extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy and percutaneous nephrolithotomy have held steady as treatment strategies for ureteral calculi, according to trend data presented during the 2019 American Urological Association annual meeting. According to Khawaja Bilal, MD, department of urology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, more urolithiasis cases shifted from the inpatient to the outpatient and ambulatory care settings. “Our results show that an increasingly greater proportion of urolithiasis cases are now being treated in the outpatient and ambulatory care setting. These trends indicate that URS performed in the outpatient setting is becoming the top choice for management of urolithiasis.”
