Quality Improvement
The Department of Quality and Regulatory Affairs identifies and executes all quality and regulatory affairs for the Mount Sinai Health System. Our team leads and collaborates on initiatives that help improve patient outcomes, minimize risks, and decrease health care costs. We take steps to ensure that there are efforts to maintain the highest standards of care, quality, and safety as required by accrediting agencies and ensure we meet all regulatory requirements.
Quality improvement as defined by The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is the framework used to improve patient care. The quality improvement process aims to standardize processes and structure to reduce variation, achieve expected results, and improve outcomes for patients, health care systems and organizations. The structures include technology, culture, leadership, physical capital, knowledge capital (standard operating procedures), or human capital (e.g. education and training).
