Interventional Bronchoscopy
The interventional bronchoscopy program at the Mount Sinai Health System supports all the state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed to care for patients with advanced pulmonary diseases. Our highly trained experts use both rigid and fiberoptic bronchoscopes to diagnose and treat patients with endobronchial and pulmonary parenchymal disease.
While this area of care is relatively new in medicine, our physicians have extensive experience performing various procedures, and this is the key to our success in treating patients. We perform more than 400 fiberoptic procedures a year. We also perform bronchoalveolar lavage, transbronchial biopsy, and transbronchial needle aspiration procedures. Our success rate is extremely high with a very low complication rate.
We use both the flexible and rigid bronchoscope for patients with endobronchial obstruction. We routinely remove foreign bodies, and we use an endoscopic laser to resection tumors and place endobronchial stents.
To continue to make advancements in the field so our patients ultimately benefit, we collaborate with the physicians from the Mount Sinai Health System Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) Department and the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery.
