Meet the Ear institute Audiologist

Bess Nagler, AuD., CCC-A is the clinical manager of audiology at the Center for Hearing and Balance. She completed her audiology residency at Weill Cornell Medical College and joined the Mount Sinai's Center for Hearing and Balance in 2013. She received her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Hearing and Speech Sciences at the University of Maryland, College Park. Her doctoral thesis examined music perception and listening habits in young adult users of cochlear implants. Clinical expertise includes the comprehensive audiological diagnostic testing in adults and pediatrics, audiological rehabilitation including the management of hearing aids, bone anchored hearing systems, and cochlear implants in the adult population, auditory  electrophysiology, management of tinnitus, and custom In-Ear-Monitors for musicians. Dr. Nagler is licensed in Audiology through the New York State Department of Education and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

Rachael Cleary, Au.D., CCC-A is a clinical audiologist at the Hearing and Balance Center. She received her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and her Bachelor of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology & Audiology at the University of North Texas. Dr. Cleary joined the Center for Hearing and Balance after completing her audiology residency at Mount Sinai in 2022. Her clinical expertise includes comprehensive audiological diagnostic testing in adults and pediatrics, vestibular testing, audiological rehabilitation including the management of hearing aids, bone anchored hearing systems, and Cochlear implants in the adult population, auditory electrophysiology, and custom In-Ear-Monitors for musicians. Dr. Cleary is licensed in Audiology through the New York State Department of Education and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

Melissa Hurtado, Au.D., CCC-A is a clinical audiologist at the Hearing and Balance Center. She received her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from the Long Island Consortium in 2017. She completed her residency at New York City Hearing Associates, PLLC where she continued to work for three years prior to joining the Mount Sinai Faculty Practice Associates in 2020. Her doctoral thesis examined the prevalence of noise-induced hearing loss in users of recreational bone conduction headsets. Bilingual in English and Spanish, her clinical expertise includes comprehensive audiological diagnostic testing in the adult population, audiological rehabilitation including management of hearing aids, bone anchored hearing systems, and cochlear implants in the adult population, auditory electrophysiology, management of tinnitus, and custom In-Ear-Monitors for musicians. Dr. Hurtado is licensed in Audiology through the New York State Department of Education and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

Claire Murphy, Au.D., CCC-A is a clinical audiologist at the Hearing and Balance Center. She received her Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree from Vanderbilt University and obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences from the University of Connecticut. She joined the Center for Hearing and Balance after completing her audiology residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tennessee. Dr. Murphy completed her doctoral thesis on probabilities of co-occurring vestibular disorders in adult patients. Her clinical expertise includes comprehensive audiological diagnostic testing in adults and pediatrics, audiological rehabilitation including the management of hearing aids, bone anchored hearing systems, and cochlear implants in adults and pediatrics, auditory electrophysiology, and vestibular assessment. Dr. Murphy is licensed in Audiology through the New York State Department of Education and holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).
