An instructor of medicine in the division of endocrinology diabetes and bone disease at Mount Sinai, Dr. Barrie Weinstein specializes in the treatment of diabetes and its complications, as well as general endocrinology. Over 60 percent of the patients she treats at the Mount Sinai Diabetes Center have type 2 diabetes. The holiday season places stress on everyone’s diet, but it poses additional challenges for the eight percent of Americans diagnosed with diabetes. “Diabetes is a group of diseases marked by high levels of blood glucose, either due to defects in insulin production, insulin action or both,” says Dr. Weinstein.
