Dr. Robert Cohen Presents Grand Rounds on July 11th
Robert Cohen, M.D. will present the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health’s July Grand Rounds. His presentation, entitled, “Medical Consequences of Mass Incarceration: What Do We Do Now?” will review the epidemiology of mass incarceration in the United States and the medical consequences of solitary confinement, define the elements of a human rights approach to incarceration, and discuss the limits of traditional quality/safety approaches when the patient is a prisoner.
Dr. Cohen is an attending physician at New York University’s Langone Medical Center and the Medical Director of Cicatelli Associates in New York City. Dr. Cohen has been a member of the New York City Board of Correction for the last five years. He also serves on the editorial board of the International Journal of Prison Health Care and as an American Public Health Association Invited Observer of the WHO – European Region Health in Prison Project. His expertise in prison health comes from his many roles as a medical expert and monitor for oversight of medical care in U.S. prisons and courts in Michigan; Ohio; Connecticut; New York; Washington, D.C.; Florida; and Philadelphia.
As part of the Mount Sinai Health System’s virtual campus, videoconferencing will be offered with the Beth Israel Medical Center’s Department of Family Medicine and the Mount Sinai-affiliated Mid Hudson Family Practice Residency in Kingston.
The event will be held from 8-9am on Friday, July 11th in Mount Sinai’s Hess Seminar Room A in the Hess Center for Science and Medicine (1470 Madison Avenue between 101st & 102nd St), 2nd floor. A light breakfast will be served at 7:45am.
