Dr. Michelle Klein: “How Justin Bieber Saved This Kid”
Two-year-old Theo Bolonik, had a mystery illness that was eventually helped by huddles of doctors comparing notes, and a lot of blood tests. Michelle Klein, MD, Assistant Clinical Professor of Pediatrics, Endocrinology and Diabetes at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, said they believed he might have something called hyperinsulinism, a very rare disorder that is essentially the opposite of diabetes. Theo’s mother also attributes his ability to get through his illness to Justin Bieber’s song “Baby,” which Theo would request to listen to while enduring tasks made difficult by the illness.
