Dr. Arthur Jenkins - "Stem Cell Treatment Credited With Quadriplegic's Recovery"
After an accident with his stepfather, James Mason was left a quadriplegic with just the slightest ability to move his arms. He found an experimental trial at The Mount Sinai Hospital where surgeons injected stem cells into the damaged portion of his spinal cord. The surgery, performed by Arthur Jenkins III, MD, an associate professor of neurosurgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mont Sinai, took four hours. "My two cents is it worked, that this actually changed his neurological recovery and function, that his functional improvement is from the stem cells that were injected," said Dr. Jenkins.
