MSHS Nursing Mentorship Program featuring Mount Sinai South Nassau Entry to Practice

We are proud to offer a transformational, comprehensive MSHS Mentorship Program focused on supporting Registered Nurses at every stage in their career in the Mount Sinai Health System.

The MSHS Mentorship Program promotes a culture of mentorship, professional development, collaboration, mutual trust, respect, and teamwork. The foundation of the program exemplifies the Mount Sinai Health System Professional Practice Model of Relationship Centered Care, focused on Care of Patient, Clinical Colleagues, Care Team Members and Community (Local –Global). The MSHS Mentorship Program is committed to the success and professional development of our MSHS RNs.

Pathways

The Mount Sinai Health System Mentorship Program has three pathways:

  • Entry to Practice: Focuses on RN peer-to-peer mentorship to support our many new graduate nurses. Nurses can choose to initiate this program once they have completed a Fellowship/Nurse Residency Program or unit orientation. The program will match new graduate nurse mentee with an experienced peer mentor for a one-year mentorship experience. An entry-to-practice peer mentor will provide expert support and guidance for the mentee.
  • Entry to Leadership: Provides expert mentors to support our new nurse leaders
  • Entry to Advanced Degree: Supports RNs as they pursue the next step in their careers, be it a nurse practitioner (NP) degree, or education in leadership, informatics, or any other relevant topic.

Mount Sinai Morningside Mentor/Mentee Feedback

Our mentors and mentees at Mount Sinai Morningside exemplify the strengths of the program mentor: “I love mentoring and helping nurses grow in their skills and practice. I think it is very necessary and helpful, and we should put a deeper focus on mentoring.”

Mentee: “I think the Mentorship Program is a great idea! After graduating from my nurse residency program, it is nice to know that management and leadership care about us enough to want to continue to support us and guide us during our Mount Sinai careers.”

Mentee: “I think Mentorship is good for everyone, really. I feel like I have a lot of people who help me and guide me in my practice. I think that I may one day be a mentor as well...”

Kingsley Nurse

“Mentorship for me is all about giving back. As a nurse, I was shaped and molded by those who took the time and effort to guide and advise me on the best way to do things, and what to focus on and learn. Now that I have garnered some good solid experience and grown in my practice, I feel that it is not only my obligation, but a deep privilege to help to guide and mentor those who now need the same experience and guidance I once so greatly craved and needed. I am forever grateful for this wonderful opportunity.”
