The Mount Sinai Hospital Intensive Care
The Mount Sinai Hospital offers highly specialized, advanced care to patients with the most serious diseases, injuries, and those recovering from complex surgeries. We provide this care in state-of-the-art intensive care units (ICUs), staffed by specially trained health care providers. They all work together as a team to bring you the best care possible.
At The Mount Sinai Hospital, we have six ICUs:
- Cardiac Intensive Care Unit: This facility is designed to meet the needs of patients with heart problems. We have the latest technology, including echocardiography and ventricular assist devices.
- The Edna and Emanuel Taub Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit: In this unit, we care for patients recovering from cardiac or thoracic surgery. Our multidisciplinary team has specially trained experts prepared to deal with the sickest patients. The intensive care unit offers transplant and left ventricular assist devices.
- Medical Intensive Care Unit: Taking a team approach, we treat patients suffering from conditions such as sepsis, respiratory distress, and liver disease. We also work closely with the palliative care unit.
- Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit: Our neurocritical team provides advanced, compassionate care for patients with tumors of the brain and spine, severe or prolonged seizures, neuro-infections, spinal cord injury, and many other conditions. We also participate in several clinical trials, which allows us to offer the latest care options.
- Surgical Intensive Care Unit: This unit provides 24/7 monitoring and care to patients recuperating from all types of surgery, including orthopedic, vascular, gynecologic-obstetric, urologic, general, and transplantation. We are also involved with several clinical trials, focusing on topics such as ultrasound and sepsis.
- Transplant Intensive Care Unit: Our specially trained health care providers care for patients recuperating from kidney, small bowel, and bone marrow transplants. We also treat patients with acute and chronic liver failure. We provide the most advanced care to these fragile patients.
