Oscar A. Candia, MD, Receives High Honor As 2009 Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology Fellow
Dr. Candia, Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, was recognized for his accomplishments, leadership, and contributions to ARVO.
Oscar A. Candia, MD, Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Ophthalmology at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, was among the group of members recognized for their accomplishments, leadership and contributions to the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Dr. Candia will be officially inducted at the Association’s Annual Meeting this May.
Dr. Candia arrived at Mount Sinai in 1968. He was hired by Dr. Irving Leopold, the first Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Mount Sinai. Dr. Candia’s current clinical interest is in glaucoma and lens accommodation. He has served as Associate Editor of Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science, and on the editorial boards of Current Eye Research, American Journal of Physiology: Cell Physiology, and Experimental Biology and Medicine.
Dr. Candia is being inaugurated with this year’s class of distinguished Fellows as an ARVO Fellow and Gold Medal Recipient. This honor is bestowed on those who serve as role models and mentors for individuals pursuing careers in vision and ophthalmology research. This includes advancing basic and clinical knowledge and serving as the leading international forum for vision research and the primary advocate for vision science worldwide.
