Social Work Services
At Mount Sinai Morningside, we provide professional social work services to help you and your family understand and cope with medical, psychological, and social issues related to your illness. We offer social work support in the inpatient setting, in the emergency department, and through our ambulatory care services, addressing your physical, emotional, and social needs. Our social workers, who hold master’s degrees, work with teams throughout the hospital to help you get the resources you need. You or any member of your family can request social work services. Our social workers at Mount Sinai Morningside can provide:
- Education and counseling to help you manage your feelings, fears, and concerns about your medical condition
- Support for emotional and psychological stress
- Crisis intervention
- Discharge planning
- Education on and connection to community services
- Information about health insurance and entitlements
- Referrals for post-acute placement and care such as a skilled nursing facility, home care, hospice, acute rehabilitation, and substance abuse or mental health treatment
- Orders for medical equipment
- Information and support about end-of-life issues including grief, loss, and bereavement counseling
- Intervention if you are a victim of domestic violence, child or elder abuse, or another violent crime
- Substance abuse assessment and referral
